Game accessibility.
Jason: summary of where we are - John and Janina made changes to draft of gaming a11y gap analysis based on comments I submitted (thanks to both). Today, appears mutually satisfied with changes. John just sent email out approving those. At or close to a draft everyone might be able to agree on. Additionally, it doesn't get auto propegated to git
branch, so I manually created HTML link that won't change unless go into branch.
https://
Jason: there were some git issues yesterday but I think we're ready to go. Everythign in there as you wanted John?
John: yes
Jason: stable link, so reasonable for the CFC. Janina?
Janina: we will- it will come on APA admin list (formal business). You're all in APA and subscribed to it. CFC comes through there and clearly labeled as such and then the proposal. Roy will take the HTML and create a locked down snapshot. Standard process. So what we vote on doesn't change during voting process. Stabdard practice. Frees us if we
want to tidy up document, minor edits are accepted, part of CFC. No major edits that change content. URI that I point to that comes from APA admin. I will send that out once I have the link from Roy...Next week, past the US Labor Day holiday and just over a week to vote on it. Expire maybe 9th or 10th. I don't expect any problems. Really good stuff
John. Thank you, this is brilliant.
… Why I rewrote the head - contextualize into w3c process. And Jason helped point out, that gaming is not the only instance where we might have intentional friction. Gaming is example, but meta need for this kind of application. Maybe an educational test. It's a situation where intentional friction is the point or essential character changes...if
you make all the changes the game might not be good anymore. So find and develop the friction, the bounds do this as we do the work. I think it's extremely important. Good job putting togehter, John. APA might be straying outside assigned scope in W3C, OK to do the work, but need to touch base with Sean and Kevin and Alastair and Rochelle...And
John? Reach out to them and say doing the work and resources, etc. Developing the concept that we don't have guidance in gaming and other areas. Take us in that direction...do you mind if APA does this, but it's usually guidelines work but they are very overloaded. In case there is objection, want to discuss in advance.
… and then based on CFC decision we move forward from there
Jason: Two points - first on logistics. The way this is set up in Git is the markdown file is copied into the GH-pages branch on Git, which is the one that gets rendered to HTML. The only way to get rendering is in that specific branch. Will that complicate what Roy wants to do? But needs to be aware how to get the rendering at the moment. The GH
pages branch will not update automatically, have to do manually
Janina: I will cc you on email to Roy in case of complications
Jason: the link is stable and won't change unless someone goes in and manually changes it.
Janina: the little point with APA is shouldn't be able to change it, not just saying we won't.
… and the other thing, assuming approved to move forward, this doc will have its own repository.
jason: keep me apprised, and if you need help you know where I am. But clean rendered HTML from Git. ANd sent to the mailing list in case Scott or anyone else to read it
Janina: this will happen Monday at the latest, so that would give Scott time to read it.
Jason: the same issues do arise elsewhere and not just in assessments (education or other), but in exercise where trying to practice a skill or trying to learn something. Ubiquitous in many contexts and be evaluated automatically....could be other contexts. Making that clear in the introduction, if authorized further work, would be a good idea
… If anyone picks up any editorial issues before CFC or before stabilize the link let us know
… next question - anyone objects to having the draft proceed as basis as CFC? If no, will write a resolution to that effect.
[no objections from the group]
RESOLUTION: RQTF requests that APA conduct a Call for Consensus with respect to our proposal to develop a Gaming Accessibility Working Group Note, taking into account the gap analysis provided at https://
Accessibility of Machine Learning and Generative AI draft.
Janina: nothing this week. No updates.
Jason: gaming took up the time
janina: i expect not to get back to this until I'm back in NY
Jason: gaming will have a touch base on agenda next week
… anything else on this topic?
Miscellaneous topics.
Jason: Anything going on?
… There was an annual science a11y conference taking place this week. A formal colleague is the chair. A lot of interest in mathmatical braille and tactile graphics.
… workshop in Oct on AI and a11y. Will let you know.
